Vol. 560 No. 2

Written Answers. - Accident and Emergency Services.

Brendan Smith

Question:

75 Mr. B. Smith asked the Minister for Health and Children the position regarding the proposal to appoint an accident and emergency consultant at Cavan General Hospital. [2251/03]

I am pleased to inform the Deputy that my Department issued financial clearance to the North-Eastern Health Board on 23 December 2002 to the filling of three new consultant posts in emergency medicine. These posts will be processed by Comhairle na nOspidéal as the statutory body with responsibility for regulating the number and type of appointments of consultant medical staff in hospitals providing services under the Health Acts. Accordingly, the sessional configuration of the posts by hospital in the north-eastern region will be determined by Comhairle.
