Vol. 560 No. 2

Written Answers. - Alcohol Advertising.

Brendan Smith

Question:

76 Mr. B. Smith asked the Minister for Health and Children his plans to introduce measures to ban the advertising of alcohol products [2252/03]

I have expressed my concern on the issue of alcohol related harm on many occasions. One of the recommendations of the strategic task force on alcohol which I established in January 2001 concerns limiting the exposure of children and adolescents to alcohol marketing. In pursuance of this recommendation, I am considering the introduction of legislation on alcohol advertising. The primary aim of this legislation is to protect young people, especially children from overexposure to alcohol advertising.
