Vol. 560 No. 2

Written Answers. - National Monuments.

Bernard J. Durkan

Question:

89 Mr. Durkan asked the Minister for the Environment and Local Government if initiatives are contemplated in respect of the restoration of Donadea Castle and buildings at Donadea Forest Park, County Kildare; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [2233/03]

Donadea Castle is not in the care of my Department, which has no plans to undertake work at the site. The castle is a recorded national monument and, as such, is afforded legal protection under the National Monuments (Amendment) Act 1994. Written notice would need to be given to my Department of any proposals to carry out works at the site.

Question:

90 Mr. Durkan asked the Minister for the Environment and Local Government the position in regard to the required improvement works at the obelisk, Maynooth, County Kildare; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [2234/03]

Given the scale of demands on my Department's programme of conservation works, major works are not at present planned in relation to the Connolly Folly.
