Vol. 560 No. 3

Written Answers. - Local Authority Charges.

Jim O'Keeffe

Question:

394 Mr. J. O'Keeffe asked the Minister for the Environment and Local Government if he will take steps to ensure that increases in local authority charges are kept to a reasonable level. [2305/03]

The Local Government (Financial Provisions) (No.2) Act 1983 confers wide general powers on local authorities to charge for services which they provide. Within this framework, it is a matter for individual local authorities to determine the charges to be levied in their own local area having regard to the cost and the level of services being provided and no role is provided for the Minister for the Environment and Local Government.

Question No. 395 answered with Question No. 150.
