Written Answers. - Fire Stations.

John McGuinness

Question:

414 Mr. McGuinness asked the Minister for the Environment and Local Government the status of an application for funding to provide a new fire station at Castlecomer, County Kilkenny; the status of the application in the system; and the time frame involved in taking the project to construction stage. [2572/03]

John McGuinness

Question:

415 Mr. McGuinness asked the Minister for the Environment and Local Government if tenders have been accepted for the construction of a fire station at Freshford, County Kilkenny; the length of time involved in selecting a contractor; the time frame for the construction of the new station; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [2573/03]

I propose to take Questions Nos. 414 and 415 together.

Proposals from Kilkenny County Council for approval in principle for a new fire station at Castlecomer and approval to contract documents for a new fire station at Freshford are with my Department. These projects will be considered in the context of the fire services capital programme having regard to the council's priorities and the competing demands of other fire authorities.
