I propose to take Questions Nos. 154 and 155 together.
The following table lists 50 existing candidate special areas of conservation, cSACs, as well as the recently proposed cSAC Moy river No. 002298, all of which are all partially or wholly in County Mayo. Lowland is included in some of these sites and the Moy river would be the most recent example.
The European Communities (Natural Habitat) Regulations 1997, provide for amendment by the Minister for the Environment and Local Government of candidate special areas of conservation, cSAC, in response to objections from effected landowners.
Where my Department does not propose, before initial assessment, to recommend the amendment of a cSAC envisaged in an objection, the Appeals Advisory Board is available to assist in the assessment of objections by carrying out a further review of cases referred to it and making an independent recommendation to the Minister for the Environment and Local Government.
In all cases, boundary changes to provide for exclusions or inclusions must be justified on scientific grounds.
