Vol. 561 No. 1

Written Answers. - Closed Circuit Television Systems.

Seamus Healy

Question:

469 Mr. Healy asked the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform when he intends to approve the installation of closed circuit television cameras for the towns of Clonmel, Carrick-on-Suir and Tipperary town; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [3542/03]

I am advised by the Garda authorities that Clonmel is one of 17 locations set to receive new Garda CCTV systems over the next two years – subject to the availability of funds. The other locations are: Athlone, Ballyfermot, Bray, Carlow, Castlebar, Clondalkin, Dundalk, Dún Laoghaire, Ennis, Finglas, Galway, Kilkenny, Limerick, Sligo, Tallaght and Waterford. Planning for the installation of a CCTV system for Clonmel is scheduled to commence later this year.

No application for a Garda CCTV system has been received by the CCTV advisory committee in relation to Carrick-on-Suir or Tipperary town.
