Vol. 561 No. 1

Written Answers. - Social Welfare Benefits.

Joan Burton

Question:

514 Ms Burton asked the Minister for Social and Family Affairs if a person (details supplied) in Dublin 15 can receive a carer's allowance as a sole carer. [3356/03]

My Department has no record of an application for carer's allowance from the person concerned who is currently in receipt of retirement pension. An application form issued to him on 7 February 2003. On receipt of the completed application, his entitlement to carer's allowance will be examined and he will be notified directly of the outcome.

Under social welfare legislation decisions in relation to claims must be made by deciding officers and appeals officers. These officers are statutorily appointed and I have no role in regard to making such decisions.
