Vol. 561 No. 2

Written Answers. - Tax Rebates.

Ned O'Keeffe

Question:

208 Mr. N. O'Keeffe asked the Minister for Finance if he will notify the Revenue Commissioners that a person (details supplied) in County Cork, who is jointly assessed for income tax purposes with her spouse, is in fact a widow; and if the Revenue Commissioners will update this person's tax credits in this regard. [3948/03]

I am informed by the Revenue Commissioners that the inspector of taxes had not been told that the taxpayer is a widow. The inspector rang the telephone number provided by the Deputy and left a message asking the taxpayer to contact her. The inspector has also written to the taxpayer requesting the information needed to update the taxpayer's tax credits, i.e. the date of her husband's death, the number of dependent children, if any, and the amount of her pension income, including social welfare pension. When the inspector receives the information, she will update the taxpayer's tax credits as quickly as possible.
