Vol. 561 No. 2

Written Answers. - Dormant Accounts Fund.

Dan Boyle

Question:

100 Mr. Boyle asked the Minister for Community, Rural and Gaeltacht Affairs if he has sought the use of moneys available in the dormant accounts fund for projects identified by his Department. [3733/03]

The Dormant Accounts Fund Disbursements Board is statutorily obliged to produce a plan for my approval regarding expenditure of moneys available in the fund. The plan will be a public document designed to provide information on use of the moneys. In preparing the plan, the board will clearly be guided by section 41 of the Dormant Accounts Act 2001 which provides that funds are to be applied on programmes or projects to assist persons who are economically, educationally or socially disadvantaged and persons with a disability.

The board's disbursements plan is understood to be at an advanced stage of preparation. As part of this process, the board has consulted with Departments and agencies to identify where the funds can be targeted most effectively.
