Vol. 561 No. 4

Written Answers. - Flood Relief.

Mary Wallace

Question:

454 Ms M. Wallace asked the Minister for the Environment and Local Government the immediate funding he is providing to Meath County Council to deal with flooding concerns at Dunboyne and Clonee following the November 2002 floods and the publication of the interim report for the Meath area of the River Tolka on 30 January; the works to be carried out; if the funding allocated is in addition to the funding allocated by the Office of Public Works; if there is any other relevant information; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [4649/03]

My Department has been informed by the council that the interim report has identified a need for the removal of water pipes crossing a culverted section of the Clonee stream in order to eliminate a potential obstruction of water flow in the culvert. My Department advised the council that it could consider undertaking this work, estimated to cost €30,000, under the devolved small schemes programme. Yesterday I approved a block grant allocation of €750,000 to the council for the current year under this programme.
