Vol. 561 No. 6

Written Answers - Schools Building Projects.

Charlie O'Connor

Question:

90 Mr. O'Connor asked the Minister for Education and Science if support will be offered an all Irish primary school, Scoil Santain, Avonmore Road, Tallaght, Dublin 24, where pupils, staff and parents are seriously concerned regarding the ongoing problems arising from vandalism which has caused major damage and which recently has left the school closed for some days; the assistance which can be made available to the school as a matter of urgency; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [5099/03]

The 2003 schools building programme has now been published. Full details in relation to projects are available on my Department's website at www.education.ie.

I am pleased to inform the Deputy that provision has been made in this year's programme for a small scale project to improve security at Scoil Santain. My Department's building unit has been in touch with the school authorities regarding this matter.

The large scale refurbishment-extension project at Scoil Santain is at an early stage of architectural planning. On the basis of the budgetary allocation it was not possible to include it in the new projects to start construction in 2003. The budgetary allocation for 2004 and subsequent years will determine the rate of progress on projects that could not be included in this year's programme.

Olwyn Enright

Question:

91 Ms Enright asked the Minister for Education and Science when a pre-fab which has been sanctioned for St. Manchan's national school, Tubber, Moate, County Westmeath, will be provided; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [5105/03]

I am pleased to inform the Deputy that provision has been made in the 2003 schools building programme for temporary accommodation for St. Manchán's national school, Tubber, County Offaly.

My Department's building unit will contact the school's management authorities to progress this matter.
