Vol. 562 No. 1

Written Answers - Motor Vehicle Disposal.

Pat Carey

Question:

470 Mr. Carey asked the Minister for the Environment and Local Government the outcome of discussions between his Department, SIMI and vehicle dismantlers, regarding arrange ments for disposing of motor vehicles as part of the end of life disposal system; the broad arrangements for this agreement; if it will apply to existing large stockpiles of crashed or crushed motor vehicles located in fields on the outskirts of Dublin; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [5345/03]

I refer to the reply to Question No. 117 of 4 February 2003 and confirm that I am now bringing proposals to Government to support implementation of an end of life vehicle, ELV, recovery scheme consistently with the requirements of EU Directive 2000/53/EC on ELVs. Existing provisions of the Waste Management Act 1996 and supplementary regulations apply to the abandonment of vehicles and the permitting of operators involved in the holding, dismantling and recovery of ELVs.
