Vol. 562 No. 2

Written Answers - State Bodies Merger.

Seán Ryan

Question:

150 Mr. S. Ryan asked the Minister for Agriculture and Food if his attention has been drawn to the concern within the horticulture industry at proposals to merge Bord Glas and Bord Bia; and the way in which he proposes to ensure that this does not occur. [5767/03]

I am aware of the views expressed in relation to the proposed merger. In announcing details of the 2003 Estimate for my Department, I expressed the view that it is now opportune to consider the possible advantages that might accrue from the amalgamation of Bord Bia and Bord Glas. That remains my view. I recently met the chairman and some members of the board of Bord Glas and indicated that the concerns expressed about ensuring continued promotion of the horticulture sector would be taken into account in the details of the amalgamation.
