Question:

191 Mr. Wall asked the Minister for Health and Children if his attention has been drawn to the fact that where children from different health boards are attending special schools and where one of the health boards is supplying speech and therapy tenders to the school for the children from their health board area that the board will not permit the children from the other board to benefit from such speech and therapy classes; the action he will take in relation to such discrimination; if such discrimination will be erased; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [6042/03]

I propose to take Questions Nos. 186 and 191 together.

My Department is aware that situations, as described by the Deputy, occur from time to time. However they have been resolved at local level between the relevant health boards.

If the Deputy is aware of any current situation where this matter is presenting problems, the details should be referred to the relevant health boards by the concerned parties.

In relation to the case mentioned by the Deputy, as responsibility for the provision of services in the Kildare region lies with the Eastern Regional Health Authority. My Department has asked the regional chief executive officer of the authority to investigate the matter and to reply directly to the Deputy.
