254 Ms O'Sullivan asked the Minister for Education and Science the names of chairs of boards of governors of institutes of technology proposed to take office from 1 April 2003; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [6290/03]

I propose to take Questions Nos. 253 and 254 together.

I appointed chairpersons to the governing bodies of the institutes of technology in Athlone, Carlow, Cork, Dundalk, Galway-Mayo, Limerick, Tallaght, Tralee and Waterford on 3 February 2003 for a three-year term. The expiry dates of the terms of office of the remaining chairpersons are: Blanchardstown – 9 December 2004; Letterkenny – 4 December 2006; Sligo – 17 December 2005; Dublin Institute of Technology – 4 September 2005.

The names of the current chairpersons are on the list.

255 Ms O'Sullivan asked the Minister for Education and Science the criteria applied by his Department in selecting chairs of boards of governors of institutes of technology; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [6291/03]

The provisions of the Second Schedule to both the Regional Technical Colleges Act 1992 and the Dublin Institute of Technology Act 1992 apply in relation to the appointment of Chairpersons to the governing bodies of Institutes of Technology.
