Vol. 562 No. 4

Written Answers - Information Services.

Bernard J. Durkan

Question:

439 Mr. Durkan asked the Minister for Social and Family Affairs if further funding is available to Comhairle, Naas, County Kildare, to assist toward the refurbishment of office accommodation; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [6467/03]

The national information agency, Comhairle, which operates under the aegis of my Department, is responsible for the provision to all citizens of independent information, advice and advocacy services. It does this largely by supporting a network of 85 independent citizens' information centres throughout the country. Comhairle provided funding of €40,000 in 2002 to Newbridge Citizens Information Centre towards the upgrading of office accommodation at the centre. It is expected that work on the upgrading, which includes making the office accessible to people with disabilities, will commence as soon as the written permission of the trustees of the building is received.
