Vol. 562 No. 4

Written Answers - Capital Allowances.

Joan Burton

Question:

208 Ms Burton asked the Minister for Finance the cost to the Exchequer of banks and financial institutions availing of capital allowances and other such allowances for investments by enterprises in plant and machinery which are the subject of leasing and similar arrangements with financial institutions. [6481/03]

I am informed by the Revenue Commissioners that the cost to the Exchequer for capital allowances claimed on plant and machinery by all banks and other financial institutions, including those in the IFSC, in respect of accounting periods ending in the year ended 31 March 2001, the latest available, is estimated to be of the order of €316 million.

The available statistics on capital allowances do not distinguish between the amounts claimed in respect of leasing arrangements and other purposes.
