Vol. 563 No. 1

Written Answers - Ranger Service.

Seán Ryan

Question:

542 Mr. S. Ryan asked the Minister for the Environment and Local Government if he will report on the alleged increase in unauthorised shootings in the north Fingal area of County Dublin; the plans he has to fill the vacant position of wildlife ranger; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [7255/03]

My Department's Heritage Service has not received reports of any significant increase in unauthorised shooting in this area. If the Deputy has any information on such incidents, my Department would be happy to have them investigated in so far as these may fall within our remit.

As stated in the reply to Question No. 436 of 4 February 2003, the conservation ranger vacancies throughout the country, including Dublin North, are being addressed by the establishment of a new general panel for such appointments. Arrangements to form this panel are in hand.
