Question:

227 Mr. Naughten asked the Minister for Health and Children his Department's position regarding the threatened closure of the accident and emergency unit at Roscommon County Hospital; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [7600/03]

I propose to take Questions Nos. 226 and 227 together.

These issues arise from press coverage of the work of the national task force on medical staffing. The task force's report is still in preparation and has not yet been finalised.
I understand that the task force is examining the role and structure of acute hospitals so that they can provide the best possible service for patients. I also understand that it will not be recommending the closure of any hospitals.
When the task force's report has been finalised, I will consider its contents and bring proposals to Government in the normal way.
