Vol. 563 No. 2

Written Answers - Garda Deployment.

Bernard J. Durkan

Question:

238 Mr. Durkan asked the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform the Garda strength in each town and district in County Kildare; his plans to augment such figures in line with indicators in the programme for Government; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [7573/03]

I have been informed by the Garda authorities, who are responsible for the operation and detailed allocation of personnel and resources to individual areas, that the current personnel strength – all ranks – in each Garda station in County Kildare as at 11 March 2003 is as follows:

6

3

28

County and Garda district boundaries do not correlate. There are two Garda districts in County Kildare: Naas district and Kildare district. Naas District is composed of Naas, Celbridge, Clane, Kill and Maynooth Garda stations. Kildare District is composed of Kildare, Carbury, Kilcullen, Monasterevin Newbridge, Rathangan and Robertstown Garda stations. The remaining stations listed above, while in the county of Kildare, form parts of four other Garda districts that are primarily in counties other than Kildare.
Local Garda management is satisfied that the arrangements in place in the Garda stations in County Kildare are adequate to meet the policing needs of the areas. I am informed that the situation will be kept under review and, when additional personnel next become available, the needs of Garda stations in County Kildare will be fully considered within the overall context of the needs of Garda stations.
