Vol. 563 No. 2

Written Answers - National Parents Council.

Bernard Allen

Question:

209 Mr. Allen asked the Minister for Education and Science the rationale behind the decision to cut the funding to the National Parents Council primary level from ?300,000 to ?250,000, thereby eliminating many of the services provided by the National Parents Council. [7541/03]

The administrative grant towards the running costs of the National Parents Council, primary, has not been reduced. My Department also provides assistance, through its in-career development programme, to the National Parents Council, primary, towards the cost of training courses which it provides. In this regard the allocation to the National Parents Council, primary, in 2003 will be less than the allocation in 2002, taking account of the overall demands for inservice generally. I will continue to provide support to the National Parents Council on behalf of primary school parents generally.
