Vol. 563 No. 5

Written Answers - Recreational Facilities.

Jack Wall

Question:

146 Mr. Wall asked the Minister for Community, Rural and Gaeltacht Affairs the consideration he has asked the rural/agri-tourism advisory group to give to the problem of access to walkways, especially in view of the importance of this sector to agri-tourism; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [8311/03]

I consider the development of the rural/agri-tourism sector to be a key factor in ensuring the improved well-being of rural areas. I established the rural/agri-tourism advisory group to identify the strengths and weaknesses of the sector and put forward practical suggestions to enable the sector to develop. The inaugural meeting of the advisory group was held on 28 February. I addressed the inaugural meeting of the group and made clear my desire for a community-based solution in relation to access to walkways. Following the inaugural meeting, officials from my Department are to meet interested parties and draw up a discussion document on the issue in advance of the next meeting of the group.
