Vol. 563 No. 6

Written Answers - Milk Quota.

Michael Ring

Question:

57 Mr. Ring asked the Minister for Agriculture and Food the reason the redistribution of milk quota to eligible milk suppliers in the CLÁR areas of the Mayo region was abandoned. [8592/03]

A scheme to allocate additional milk quota in CLÁR regions was considered in the current milk quota year. The additional quota would have come partly from the national reserve and partly from restructuring schemes operating within the areas concerned. Due to the level of existing demand on the national reserve from producers throughout the country in difficult quota situations, and in view of a more general debate within the sector on the operation of quota reallocation schemes, it was decided not to proceed with this particular idea in the current year.
