Question:

237 Mr. Neville asked the Minister for Health and Children when it is proposed to appoint an ombudsman for children under the Ombudsman for Children Act 2002. [8958/03]

As the Deputy will be aware the Ombudsman for Children Act 2002, which was signed by the President in May 2002, provides for the setting up of an ombudsman's office by end of April 2004. Work is ongoing in my Department in relation to all aspect of establishing the office, including the appointment of the ombudsman for children.
