Vol. 564 No. 1

Written Answers - Motor Taxation.

Billy Timmins

Question:

297 Mr. Timmins asked the Minister for the Environment and Local Government the percentage of income from road tax going back into the roads in Counties Monaghan, Wexford and Wicklow; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [8809/03]

In 2002, Monaghan, Wexford and Wicklow County Councils, as licensing authorities for their respective counties, collected €8.1 million, €18.5 million and €16.5 million net of administrative costs in motor tax.

Non-national road grants of €13.941 million, €13.162 million and €10.175 million were paid to the Monaghan, Wexford and Wicklow local authorities in 2002. These grant payments were, of course, over and above grants paid by the National Roads Authority for the improvement and maintenance of national roads in these counties.
