Vol. 564 No. 1

Written Answers - Pension Provisions.

Michael Ring

Question:

339 Mr. Ring asked the Minister for Social and Family Affairs if the same relief from PRSI and health levies will apply to contributions made to PRSAs and personal pensions by Schedule D taxpayers as will apply to Schedule E taxpayers; when she will introduce the requisite regulations; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [8805/03]

Legislation provides that relief from PRSI and health levies will apply to contributions made to PRSAs and personal pensions by Schedule E taxpayers, that is, those in the PAYE system.

There is no provision for this relief to be provided to self-employed persons paying tax under Schedule D and extending such relief to them would give rise to significant additional costs and any such measure would have to be considered in the overall budgetary context.
