Vol. 564 No. 5

Written Answers - Civil Service Recruitment.

Michael Ring

Question:

129 Mr. Ring asked the Minister for Finance if there will be an open competition in 2003 for the recruitment of former civil servants; the plans there are to recruit for the Civil Service in 2003; and when the next recruitment drive will be scheduled. [9551/03]

The Civil Service Commissioners have held a number of competitions in recent years which specifically targeted former civil servants for appointment to positions at various levels in the Civil Service. While there are no plans at present to hold similar competitions, the recruitment needs of the Civil Service are under constant review in order to reflect changes in recruitment needs. In that context, the possibility remains that such competitions may be held in future as the need arises.

Former civil servants are welcome to apply to compete in open recruitment competitions conducted by the Civil Service Commissioners, subject to their meeting the minimum entry requirements. All job seekers, including former civil servants are encouraged to register on the Civil Service Commission website, www.publicjobs.ie. By registering on the website, job seekers may register an interest in various employment categ ories and will subsequently be notified when vacancies arise in their categories of choice.
