Vol. 564 No. 5

Written Answers - School Staffing.

Pat Breen

Question:

167 Mr. P. Breen asked the Minister for Education and Science if a support teacher will be appointed to Kilmihil national school, County Clare, to deal with the number of students (details supplied) who suffer from autism. [9591/03]

The school in question currently has a staffing complement of a principal and three mainstream teachers based on pupil enrolment figures. The school also has the services of two full-time resource teachers on a shared basis and two full-time special needs assistant posts in order to cater for pupils with special educational needs.

One of the special needs assistant posts was sanctioned to help cater for the needs of the pupil in question. This pupil has also been sanctioned 7.5 hours resource teaching support per week together with ten hours per week home tuition. My Department is satisfied that this level of support meets the needs of the pupils in question.
