Vol. 564 No. 5

Written Answers - Crime Levels.

Finian McGrath

Question:

396 Mr. F. McGrath asked the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform the distinction between violent deaths in Dublin - 35 - and murders - 28; the category into which two bodies found in Dublin in 2002 fit; and the way in which they are included in the figures. [9690/03]

As I informed the Deputy in my reply to Question No. 558 of 25 March, provisional figures indicate that 28 murders were recorded in the Dublin metropolitan region in the year 2002. The provisional figure for the broader category of homicide for the same year indicates that 49 instances were recorded in the DMR.

I am not clear on what the Deputy has in mind in referring to violent deaths in Dublin, and the discovery of two bodies there. I would be happy to respond further on receipt of more detailed information from him.
