Vol. 565 No. 1

Written Answers. - County Enterprise Boards.

Jack Wall

Question:

153 Mr. Wall asked the Tánaiste and Minister for Enterprise, Trade and Employment if Leitrim County Enterprise Board gave any grant in relation to a project, details supplied, for a feasibility study; if so, the person who was in receipt of such a grant; the person seeking to organise the project now; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [10167/03]

A feasibility study grant of €2392.19 was paid by Leitrim County Enterprise Board in 1996 to an individual in respect of this project. The funding and development of the project was subsequently organised by Leitrim County Enterprise Fund which is separate from Leitrim County Enterprise Board. I understand that the individual who received the feasibility study grant is one of a number of people who have submitted tenders to the Leitrim County Enterprise Fund in relation to the contract to manage and run the project.

Question:

154 Mr. Wall asked the Tánaiste and Minister for Enterprise, Trade and Employment if it is the policy of county enterprise boards to organise and control projects; if such an incident is known to her Department, or if this is the case on a project (details supplied) in County Leitrim; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [10168/03]

The role of the city and county enterprise boards is to promote the development of viable micro enterprises through the provision of financial assistance and soft supports such as business information-advice, management training, counselling and mentoring support. The organisation and control of projects is the responsibility of the project promoters.

I understand that the promoter of the project referred to by the Deputy is the Leitrim County Enterprise Fund which is separate from Leitrim County Enterprise Board.
