Vol. 566 No. 1

Written Answers. - Proposed Legislation.

Ciarán Cuffe

Question:

730 Mr. Cuffe asked the Minister for the Environment and Local Government his plans for legislation along the lines of the United Kingdom Protection Against Badgers Act 1992. [11846/03]

Irish legislation, as embodied in the Wildlife Acts 1979 and 2000, addresses the conservation of wild animals, including the badger, on the basis of provisions of general application.

I am satisfied that this approach is effective and appropriate and I have no proposal for primary legislation directed at particular species only.
