Dáil Éireann debate -
Wednesday, 14 May 2003

Vol. 566 No. 4

Business of Dáil.

I have received from Deputy Bernard Allen who was suspended from the service of the Dáil yesterday, Tuesday, 13 May, for disregarding the authority of the Chair, a written and approved expression of regret in the following terms:

Dear Ceann Comhairle,

In accordance with the requirements of Standing Order 61(3), I am writing to express my regret over my interventions in the House on Tuesday 13th May 2003 during Taoiseach's Question Time which you ruled out of order.

I regret that I ignored your ruling and the consequent disruption to the business of the House.

Yours sincerely

(Signed) Bernard Allen.

In accordance with Standing Order 61(3)(b), I must now move: “That the Order of the Dáil of 13 May suspending Deputy Allen from the service of the Dáil be discharged”. Is that agreed? Agreed.

Deputy Allen is very grateful for the lifting of this restriction upon him.

The Chair is merely implementing Standing Orders.

The Deputy felt you overreacted yesterday in implementing the Standing Order of the House which I hope we can have changed.
