Vol. 566 No. 4

Written Answers. - Local Government Reform.

David Stanton

Question:

177 Mr. Stanton asked the Minister for the Environment and Local Government when he expects to be able to introduce legislation to further reform local government; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [13041/03]

My early priority as regards local government legislation was the issue of the dual mandate and this is the subject of the Local Government Bill 2003 which is currently before the House. Over the lifetime of the Government the aim, building on progress to date, is to carry forward a significant change agenda for local government with improved effectiveness and efficiency and proper democratic input. Further legislation will be brought forward as this programme develops.

Question No. 178 answered with Question No. 149.
