Vol. 566 No. 4

Written Answers. - Departmental Properties.

Fergus O'Dowd

Question:

185 Mr. O'Dowd asked the Minister for Finance the reason the Balbriggan development is considered the most suitable location and the best value for money for the Passport Office as stated in his written reply to Parliamentary Question No. 232 of 7 May 2003. [13146/03]

The Balbriggan site is considered the most suitable in that it provides an opportunity to create a custom built facility, with potential for future expansion. The location is also within safe walking distance of the town centre and train station, will provide a good working environment for staff and is capable of fully meeting all security requirements.

Following a comparative study of premises offered, the proposed building was assessed as being the best value for money under the headings of lease terms, cost of fit out and future running expenses.
