Vol. 566 No. 5

Written Answers. - Hospital Services.

Paul Nicholas Gogarty

Question:

99 Mr. Gogarty asked the Minister for Health and Children if his attention has been drawn to the fact that a shortage of theatres in Our Lady's Children's Hospital, Crumlin, is preventing the laser treatment of birthmarks being carried out; his plans to improve this situation; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [13233/03]

Services at Our Lady's Hospital for Sick Children, Crumlin, are provided under an arrangement with the Eastern Regional Health Authority and my Department has therefore asked the regional chief executive of the authority to examine the specific issue raised by the Deputy and to reply to him directly.

I am glad to inform the Deputy that the first phase of the theatre development at Our Lady's Hospital in Crumlin is scheduled for completion later this year. This will provide five new theatres and a new hospital sterile services department, HSSD. Phase 2 of the development will provide two more theatres and a day ward.
