Vol. 567 No. 3

Written Answers. - Light Rail Project.

Mary Upton

Question:

167 Dr. Upton asked the Minister for Transport if he will report on the lengthy delays in completing the Luas works, in particular at a location (details supplied) in Dublin 12 which is causing severe distress to local residents. [14205/03]

The Railway Procurement Agency is the body responsible for the construction of the Luas project. The projected commencement dates for passenger services are June 2004 for line B, Sandyford to St. Stephen's Green, and August 2004 for lines A and C, Tallaght to Connolly Station. I have been assured by the RPA that the residents in question were advised in writing of the scope and sequence of the works to be carried out. The agency also assures me that it is taking all reasonable steps to minimise disruption and inconvenience while making good progress with the final works in hand. The RPA is currently in the process of responding to residents on the matter of planned footpath widths and other matters. The agency remains committed to engaging with local residents and appreciates their patience to date with the disruption experienced due to the construction of a major infrastructure project in their area.

I am advised by the RPA that their contractors expect to complete works between Bluebell and Kelly's Bridge between now and October next. Works are being carried out in a number of sections so RPA contractors will not be carrying out works outside any particular residence for the full duration of the works.
