Vol. 567 No. 5

Written Answers. - Sports Capital Programme.

Denis Naughten

Question:

275 Mr. Naughten asked the Minister for Arts, Sport and Tourism when a decision will be made on an application for funding under the sports capital programme (details supplied); and if he will make a statement on the matter. [14253/03]

The national lottery-funded sports capital programme which is administered by my Department, allocates funding to sporting and community organisations at local, regional and national level throughout the country.

The programme is advertised on an annual basis. The 2003 sports capital programme was advertised in the national newspapers on 23 and 24 March 2003. The closing date for receipt of applications was April 25. In excess of 1,300 applications were received before the closing date, including one from the organisation in question. All applications are currently being evaluated against the programme's assessment criteria, which are outlined in the guidelines, terms and conditions of the programme. I intend to announce the grant allocations for the programme as soon as possible after the assessment process has been completed.

Tony Gregory

Question:

276 Mr. Gregory asked the Minister for Arts, Sport and Tourism if his Department has received a request for funding under the sports capital programme from the 5th port of Dublin Sea Scouts Group to assist in the rebuilding of its headquarters at Bull Island, Dublin 3; if his attention has been drawn to the fact that this sea scout group is socially inclusive and provides an important amenity for the northside of Dublin; and if he will make a statement on the matter.
