Vol. 567 No. 6

Written Answers. - School Curriculum.

Paddy McHugh

Question:

172 Mr. McHugh asked the Minister for Education and Science the way in which schools such as the vocational school in Tuam will implement the new science programme for the junior cert which focuses more on practical work and experiments, in view of the fact that the above school has no science laboratory. [14801/03]

Question:

173 Mr. McHugh asked the Minister for Education and Science the way in which he is to implement the ideal of cherishing the children of the nation equally, particularly in relation to the teaching of the new science syllabus in schools where no science laboratory exists; and his views on whether students who are being taught the new science syllabus in schools with laboratories have an unfair advantage over students taught in schools where no laboratory exists. [14802/03]

I propose to take Questions Nos. 172 and 173 together.

My Department is finalising the arrangements for the introduction of the revised science syllabus for the junior certificate examination. The details will be outlined in a circular letter which will issue to school authorities very shortly.
