Vol. 567 No. 6

Written Answers. - Passenger Information.

Mary Upton

Question:

211 Dr. Upton asked the Minister for Transport the position regarding the provision of real time passenger information on Dublin public transport; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [14898/03]

A real time passenger information system is already in place on the DART and on some Dublin Bus services and will also form part of the Luas system.

At the request of my Department, the Dublin Transportation Office established a committee on real time passenger information in 2002. The primary purpose of the committee was to recommend an action plan for developing an integrated public transport information strategy for the greater Dublin Area, including real time passenger information.

As well as my Department and the Dublin Transportation Office, the committee consisted of representatives of public transport operators, Irish Rail, Dublin Bus, Bus Éireann, Railway Procurement Agency, Private Association of Motor Bus Owners PAMBO and Federation of Transport Operators, FOTO, the National Disability Authority, Dublin City Council and Trinity College Dublin.

I have recently received proposals from the committee which are under consideration in my Department.
