Question:

230 Mr. Ring asked the Minister for Social and Family Affairs the number of people who lodged appeals on unemployment assistance in the past two years; the number of these appeals which were disallowed; the number allowed; and the number still pending a decision. [14785/03]

It is not possible to give the precise information in the manner requested by the Deputy, as details of appeals outcomes are recorded by reference to their closing dates, as opposed to the date when they were lodged.

The figures available are set out in the following table.

Note: "Favourable Decisions" include revised decisions by deciding officers arising from the case made in the grounds of appeal, in addition to favourable determinations by appeals officers.

The number of unemployment assistance appeals on which work was in progress at 1 May 2003 was 699. The corresponding figure for 1 May 2002 was 916.
