Vol. 568 No. 1

Written Answers. - Departmental Expenditure.

Ciarán Cuffe

Question:

270 Mr. Cuffe asked the Minister for Finance the total cost of projects announced or promised by Ministers of the last Government between 1 January 2002 and 17 May 2002. [15299/03]

I take it that the Deputy is referring to ministerial announcements of specific projects either by myself or by the Minister of State at my Department.

During the period referred to in the Deputy's Question I announced the eProcurement Initiative. This project was for the implementation of the strategic report on electronic procurement entitled A Strategy for the Implementation of eProcurement in the Irish Public Sector. Implementation of the Strategy was estimated to cost €47.5 million over a seven year period and to have the potential to generate considerable savings.

The Minister of State at the time, Deputy Martin Cullen, announced the following projects:

Project

Total Estimated Cost €

Humanitarian Aid Scheme for Victims of Flooding

8,500,000

Aggard Stream (Cregaclare) Drainage Scheme

1,650,000

Waterford North Quays International Architectural and Urban Design Competition

1,000,000

State Laboratory

78,700,000

Department of Agriculture Laboratory

120,600,000

Revenue Regional Offices, The Glen, Waterford

18,510,000

The total cost of the projects announced, therefore, was €276,460,000.
