Vol. 568 No. 1

Written Answers. - Military Aircraft.

Ciarán Cuffe

Question:

605 Mr. Cuffe asked the Minister for Transport the revenue earned by Aer Rianta from United States military landings at Shannon and overflights in Irish airspace; and the profit which was derived from the landings and overflights. [15301/03]

As I pointed out in my reply to Parliamentary Question No. 784 of 29 January 2003, the revenues accruing to Aer Rianta from the operators of all aircraft using Shannon Airport, including United States military and military-related aircraft, is an operational matter for the company which has a statutory responsibility to operate on a fully commercial basis. Aer Rianta has no statutory responsibility with regard to overflights of any aircraft, military or otherwise, in Irish airspace.
