Vol. 568 No. 1

Written Answers. - Car Theft.

John Gormley

Question:

668 Mr. Gormley asked the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform the reason cars reported as stolen are not clamped when found by gardaí to prevent thieves coming back and re-using them; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [15476/03]

As the Deputy is aware, the clamping of vehicles is a mechanism aimed at countering illegal parking. I am informed that the Garda authorities do not consider that the system is suitable for the purpose suggested by the Deputy.
