Question:

733 Mr. Hogan asked the Minister for the Environment Heritage and Local Government the total expenditure in 2002 which was spent on public relations; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [15674/03]

My Department utilises its press office and a retained communications firm to provide information, advice and assistance on a range of interactions between it and the public and media. In addition, a number of other consultancy firms are employed from time to time for a range of functions. These include promoting awareness of important issues relating to my Department's functions, fulfilling publicity and information requirements under Cohesion Fund regulations, providing media monitoring services or providing other advice or assistance as required. The cost of all of these services in 2002 was €2,622,356.25.
