745 Mr. Sargent asked the Minister for the Environment Heritage and Local Government if his attention has been drawn to the damage caused by illegal infilling at Carrowmoneash in the Oranmore fens; the reason for the failure of the State organisations with responsibility, Galway County Council, Dúchas and the National Roads Authority, to stop this illegal activity; and if he will make a statement on the matter. My Department is aware of the matter referred to and had been pursuing with Galway County Council the status of the works under planning legislation. The county council recently informed the Department that it considers the works to be exempted development and the Department is considering the appropriate course of action in light of this.
