Vol. 568 No. 1

Written Answers. - Commission on Teaching.

Seán Ryan

Question:

154 Mr. S. Ryan asked the Minister for Education and Science if it is intended to proceed with the establishment of the promised commission on teaching; if not, the alternative structure which is proposed; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [15748/03]

Minister for Education and Science (Mr. Dempsey)

I recently indicated my intention to provide for a more inclusive engagement by all sectors of society in the debate on education and teaching. I am particularly interested in widening discussions on a range of education issues by providing access to parents, business people, other interested groups as well as to teachers and educationalists in order to frame a new agenda for the education system. This process, which would replace the commission on teaching initiative, is under active consideration in my Department.
