Question:

155 Ms Shortall asked the Minister for Education and Science the new primary schools granted recognition for the forthcoming year; the names of those that sought recognition, but were refused; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [15746/03]

Based on the recommendations of the Commission on School Accommodation, I have put in place a revised application procedure for new national schools seeking official recognition from September 2003, onwards. As part of this new arrangement applications for new schools intending to come into operation next September have been assessed by a new schools advisory committee which consulted with interested parties and reported to me. Applications were received in respect of 11 schools.

Following consideration of the report and recommendations of the new schools advisory committee on this year's applications, I have approved of the establishment of ten new primary schools from September 2003, in accordance with the provisions of section 10 of the Education Act 1998 and the published criteria for new schools. Details of the new schools are as follows:

Clonee/Ongar Educate Together N.S., Ongar Road, Dublin 15.

2.

Ballina Educate Together N.S., Rehins, Behybaun, Foxford Road, Ballina, County Mayo.

3.

Rush/Lusk Educate Together N.S., c/o Scout Den, Rush, County Dublin.

4.

Wicklow Educate Together N.S., c/o The Rugby Club, Ashtown Lane, Wicklow Town, County Wicklow.

5.

Limerick City East Educate Together N.S., Henry Street, Limerick City.

6.

Newbridge Educate Together N.S., c/o Newbridge/ Curragh Rugby Club, Rosetown, Newbridge, County Kildare.

7.

Gaelscoil an Raithín, Sráidbhaile Baile Choimín, An Raithín, Contae Luimní.

8.

Gaelscoil Mhuscraí, c/o Blarney United Football Club, Riverview Park, Blarney, County Cork.

9.

St. Stephen's N.S., Johnstown, Navan, County Meath.

10.

St. John's N.S., Clonmagadden, Navan, County Meath.

An application for recognition in respect of Ballytobin Camphill school in Callan, County Kilkenny; was unsuccessful as the requirements in respect of patronage and curriculum provision were not met by the promoting body.
