Vol. 569 No. 3

Written Answers. - Tax Yield.

John Bruton

Question:

200 Mr. J. Bruton asked the Minister for Finance the effect of the tax increase of 20 cent per 35.5 millilitre unit, that is, the half one, imposed on all spirits from 5 December 2002; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [17632/03]

I am informed by the Revenue Commissioners that the tax take from spirits has increased by an estimated €11.4 million in the first five months of the year compared with the same period in 2002. This figure is €19.4 million down on the projected yield for the period from January to May 2003 inclusive.
