John Bruton

Question:

211 Mr. J. Bruton asked the Minister for Education and Science the position regarding the provision of let-down areas in front of the national school in Dunboyne; if his Department will be allocating grant assistance to this project; if a final decision has been made following the estimates being prepared and tenders obtained by the parish of Dunboyne and Kilbride; the current stage of the decision process; if a decision has not been made, when it will be made; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [17598/03]

My Department has received an application for grant aid towards the cost of improvement works at Dunboyne national school. The 2003 capital programme has now been published, and full details regarding individual projects are available on my Department's web site at www.education.ie. On the basis of the budgetary allocation it was not possible to include any further projects in 2003.

The budgetary allocation for 2004 and subsequent years will determine the rate of progress on applications and projects, including the application for Dunboyne national school, which could not be included in this year's programme. In the meantime, individual schools should use their devolved grant to deal with any urgent health-and-safety works.
